Hey there, candle lovers!

Have you ever thought about making your own candles at home?

Not only is it a fun and creative activity, but it’s also a great way to fill your space with soothing scents and beautiful dĂ©cor. Today, I will walk you through making your very own lavender candles. Trust me, it’s easier than you think, and the results are oh-so-rewarding.

Before we dive into the steps, let’s gather our materials. Here’s what you’ll need:

Essential Materials:

  • Wax (soy, beeswax, or paraffin)
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Dried lavender buds
  • Candle wicks
  • Candle molds

Optional Materials for Customisation:

Tips on Sourcing Quality Materials:

  • Look for organic wax and pure essential oils for the best results.
  • Local craft stores or online shops are great places to find these materials.

1. Choosing the Right Wax

First things first, let’s talk wax. There are a few types you can use:

  • Soy Wax: Eco-friendly, burns cleanly, and is easy to work with.
  • Beeswax: Natural and has a lovely honey scent, but it can be pricey.
  • Paraffin Wax: Widely available and affordable, but not the most eco-friendly option.

Personally, I prefer soy wax for its clean burn and environmental benefits.

2. Preparing the Candle Molds

You can use various moulds, from traditional glass jars to silicone shapes. Ensure your moulds are clean and dry before use. A light spray of mould release can help if you’re using intricate designs.

3. Melting the Wa

Safety first! Use a double boiler method to melt the wax gently. Once the wax is melted, add your lavender essential oil. For example, I usually add 10-15 drops per pound of wax for a nice, strong scent.

4. Adding Lavender Buds

Dried lavender buds add a lovely touch. Add them before pouring the wax, and stir well to distribute evenly. This helps prevent the buds from sinking to the bottom.

5. Pouring the Wax

Pour the melted wax slowly into your prepared moulds. Pour steadily and avoid stirring too much to avoid bubbles. If you want a layered look, let each layer cool slightly before adding the next layer.

6. Setting the Wick

Place the wick in the centre of the mould before the wax hardens. To keep it straight, use a wick holder or a simple pencil. Different wicks work best with different waxes, so check the recommended wax you’re using.

7. Cooling and Unmoulding the Candle

Let your candles cool completely. This can take a few hours. Once cool, gently remove them from the moulds. If they’re sticking, a short time in the fridge can help.

8. Decorating the Candle

Now for the fun part! Decorate your candles with labels, ribbons, or any other elements. A little tissue paper and a cute box can go a long way for gift wrapping.

Different Essential Oil Blends: Why stop at lavender? Try blending lavender with other oils like vanilla or chamomile for unique scents.

Adding Colour: Candle dyes come in many forms, from liquid to chips. Add them to the melted wax until you achieve the desired colour.

Creating Themed Candles: Think about holidays or special occasions. For instance, red and green layers for Christmas or pastel colours for Easter.

Lavender candles are not just pretty; they offer real benefits:

Aromatherapy and Relaxation: Lavender is known for its calming properties. Lighting a lavender candle can help reduce stress and promote better sleep.

Enhancing Home Decor: Candles add a cosy ambience to any room. Plus, homemade candles can be customised to match your décor.

Making Personalized Gifts: Handmade candles make thoughtful and personal gifts for friends and family.

Making your own lavender candles is a delightful and rewarding project. You get creative, make your home smell wonderful, and even have unique gifts ready for any occasion.

So, why not give it a try?
